Healthy Living

New Year's resolution: A commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. Each year about 45% of adults make it their resolution to lose weight. Out of those 100 million, only three in ten are actually seriously trying to do so.

Studies show 75% of Americans are overweight. According to overweight Americans trying to slim down the three hardest things are: finding enough time, exercising, and finding the strength and willpower to make it all happen.

Because of that, a lot of people try to take the easy way out. That is why there are hundreds of current diet pills on sale in the U.S. Diet pills have been known to cause heart attacks, cardiac arrest, dependence, metabolism disruption, chest pain and even death.

I know it's hard and I am not even close to a health expert but truly the only healthy way to lose weight is the old fashioned way, eating right and exercising daily. You don't have to spend hours and hours a day exercising because just a little bit is better than none at all. Starz has a whole line of 10 Minute Solution exercise DVDs. They're a fun way to get your heart rate going, I have the Fat Blasting Latin Dance Mix and it's a lot of fun. You can do as many of the five segments at a time as you want.

Another crucial aspect of weight loss is what you eat. When you say the word diet in front of overweight Americans it often causes panic. People make diets out to be this awful thing that only lets you eat celery and wheat. But that's not true at all. Cutting down on calorie intake a day by only three hundred can make you lose up to three pounds a week.

Some simple ways to reduce your calorie intake are replacing fizzy drinks with water and stop taking sugar in your tea or coffee. Try having smaller portions throughout the day and avoid taking a second helping at dinner. Another big source of calories for adults come from their alcohol intake. Try only drinking once or twice a week- or maybe just on special occasions.

One of the biggest misconceptions about weight loss is skipping meals. It is a proven fact that those who eat a healthy breakfast regularly are more likely to be successful with their weight loss than those who don't. When you skip a meal it may seem like all you're doing is reducing the calorie intake, but it just leads you hungrier, making your body need to eat more to try to fill the void.

If you are one of the hundred million Americans trying to lose weight my advice to you is plain and simple; eat right, choose healthy home-cooked meals as opposed to fast food. Also try to fit exercising just a little bit in your hectic schedules. Don't set unrealistic weight loss goals that you can't healthily achieve.
